How to Organize the Perfect Closet 101
You have discovered the most outstanding apartment. Natural light is flooding in through the windows, the kitchen are spacious, and you can't wait to soak in the garden tub. As you start unpacking your clothes into the closet, it becomes apparent you may have too many clothes. And shoes. Maybe your roomie won the bigger closet, your significant other actually has more to hang up, or the space is more cramped than you thought. Here are a few tips to make the most out of your closet space.
Hangers Trump Folded Piles!
Hangers are typically seen as a necessary evil. Buying hangers is something on your to-do list and not considered exciting. However, the types of hangers you use in your closet can create or take away space. Using velvet hangers will add so much availability in your closet and they are affordable. Also, keep your hangers color-conscious. It's all too easy to become distracted by unorganized hangers.
Organize with a Plan!
After you've kicked your old hangers to the curb, organize your pieces by color as well as sleeve length. Tell me if this sounds familiar - digging through tops to find that perfect sleeveless blue button up. Organizing your closet from summer to winter is easy, but make it fun! Don’t forget you’re the one who has to look at it every morning.
Don't Think you can't Fold SOME Clothes!
Not every piece needs to have a hanger. Your jeans, shirts and sweaters can all be folded into drawers or onto shelving. Folding items will keep the closet volume workable. The difference between hanging and folded pieces will ensure you see your clothes more easily.
Use ALLLLLL the Space!
Take advantage of extra storage for the lower half of the closet. Keep accessories or folded clothing in the cubbies and keep shoes underneath. If there is still capacity, the top of the organizer can be used. There is no unusable space in a closet - only untapped possibilities.
+1 for the Road...
If you have space in the bedroom, a rolling rack is the best +1 to any walk-in closet. Be proactive and plan your outfits ahead of time, use your most coveted pieces as decoration, or just use the rack as another storage option.
